HARTFORD — Connecticut lawmakers are mulling a proposal that could lead to armed security on all 12 state community college campuses.
The bill would allow special police forces to be created at each school. Proponents have said the police forces would be similar to those on the four state university campuses and at the University of Connecticut, with certified officers.
It would be subject to approval by the Board of Regents for Higher Education. Officials there have said it would ultimately be up to each school whether to arm police on campus.
The bill is up for a hearing Thursday before the General Assembly’s Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee.
The board in December approved a resolution changing its policy barring weapons on campuses, which was the first step in this process.
