WEST HAVEN — One person was killed after the car they were in struck a tractor-trailer and went off the highway.
The accident happened at I-95 North near Exit 42 around 1 a.m.
State police said Thomas Lane, 37, of Ansonia, was traveling in the left lane and struck a truck in the center lane and rolled over and off the highway, down an embankment.
The Jeep Lane was driving hit a support pole for a sign and and he sustained a head and internal injuries. He needed to be extricated from his car, but became combative during the rescue and injured at least one first responder. He kept thrashing and caused harm to himself and others.
A trooper used a Taser on Lane, which allowed first responders to pull him from the car and treat him and take him to the hospital.
He later died at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The other driver was not injured. Police are still investigating the accident, and an autopsy will be conducted on Lane.
