WINDSOR LOCKS--The town of Windsor Locks is hoping to make some changes to a busy stretch of road where two fatal pedestrian accidents have happened.

Police say the most recent one happened just before 8 p.m. Sunday night on Route 75. They say Chantel Lynch, of Windsor Locks, was hit by an Uber driver near the Shell station. She was unresponsive when police arrived.

The area has no crosswalks, and doesn't really have any sidewalks.

First Selectman Christopher Kervick tells FOX 61, “This is a dangerous situation that deserves our efforts.”

Police say it's too early in the investigation to determine the cause of the crash. They did say the Uber driver, 50-year-old Ahsan Mohammed of Manchester, is being cooperative.

Kervick says it was just weeks ago that the Department of Transportation showed them a copy of some proposed changes to make this road safer for pedestrians. Kervick also says that even though it's a state road, the town was awarded a $1 million grant to put sidewalks on both sides of Route 75. The town has had to since re-apply because of some changes in the grant program.

“We want to make sure the state understands the urgency of getting this situation addressed as soon as possible. Having the airport here in town, it's very important we provide the safest environment possible,” said Kervick.

Kervick says there will be a public hearing soon about the proposed changes. He's expecting a crowd after this tragedy.
