Senator Maynard crash

WATERFORD — Police say a Connecticut state senator who crashed his car last month likely suffered a seizure at the time of the accident and will not face charges.

Investigators have said that Sen. Andrew Maynard was driving the wrong way on Route 32 in Waterford on Jan. 14 when he struck an SUV and went down an embankment. The Stonington Democrat suffered a concussion and was unconscious when emergency crews arrived.

Waterford Police Chief Brett Mahoney said Tuesday that hospital records show that Maynard likely suffered a seizure and testing detected no alcohol in his system.

The 53-year-old Maynard, who suffered a brain injury in July 2014 when he fell off an outdoor staircase at his home, announced this month that he would not seek re-election.
