Clam Chowder

HARTFORD — February 25th marks National Clam Chowder Day, which celebrates the popular dish. It’s made from clams, onion and potato, but recipes vary be region. Some like it creamy, some like a clear broth, and some add more tomatoes. Do you prefer New England Chowda or Manhattan style?

A clam chowder in it’s simplest form is a soup or stew containing clams or fish.  The most common type of chowder includes milk or cream as well as potatoes, though the Manhattan clam chowder has tomatoes.

It is believed that the New England style of chowder was introduced to the region by French, Nova Scotian, or British settlers and became a common dish by the 1700s, according to Eater.
