CLINTON — An elderly resident died from smoke and burn-related injuries after a massive fire ravaged his home Sunday.

Fire crews were called to 229 Killingworth Turnpike lot #57 in Clinton for a report of structure fire shortly before 8 a.m. The fire grew quickly and soon engulfed the entire house, prompting a mutual aid request.

Once entry to the home was gained, rescue crews pulled out an older man who was laying on the floor and suffering from life-threatening injuries.

CPR was started and he was taken to Shoreline Medical Center, but was pronounced deceased upon arrival.

The victim, Robert Sliby, 85, the only person living in the home. The victim’s dog also died in the fire.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by members of the State Fire Marshal’s office, as well as the Clinton Fire Marshal’s office and Clinton Police Department.
