HARTFORD — Municipal and state police officers are urging Connecticut lawmakers to pass a bill that would extend workers’ compensation coverage to police and other public safety workers who suffer emotional injuries in the line of duty.

Members of Council 4 AFSCE and the Connecticut State Police Union plan to hold a news conference Monday to voice support for the legislation. It would cover impairments such as post-traumatic stress disorder.

The event comes as a legislative committee is deciding whether to forward the legislation. Large numbers of police officers turned out last week for a public hearing on the bill.

Proponents say the bill is overdue.

Municipal leaders have expressed concerns that the legislation will lead to expensive medical claims that cities and towns can’t afford.
