HARTFORD — Pay raises for certain state managers are being canceled because of Connecticut’s continued budget problems.
Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy‘s chief of staff and budget director said in a letter Monday to state agency heads that “the state’s fiscal situation has deteriorated significantly” and the state cannot move forward with managerial raises when so many state programs will be reduced and “many state jobs are likely to be eliminated.”
They say the managers provide valuable work to the state but “the increases are no longer feasible.”
The raises were slated to take effect this week, most on March 4. They’ve already been delayed twice this fiscal year.
Last week, the General Assembly’s Office of Fiscal Analysis predicted the new fiscal year beginning July 1 will be $900 million in deficit.
