AGAWAM -- Officer Ashley Guindon's wake was held at the Agawam Funeral home in Agawam, Sunday.

A town that was near and dear to the officer, she spent part of her childhood in Agawam.

Police officers, military personnel, friends and family paid respects to the Virginia Police officer who was killed, her first night on the job.

"When you find out this steams from domestic violence," said Captain Kevin Sullivan of the Lowell, Mass. Police Department. "It hits us all very hard. From whatever state you're from, there's officers from all over the country that show up and lend their support. That's what we do."

Ashley Guindon represents the bravery behind the badge, she lost her life trying to protect others. The Virginia Police Officer was shot and killed while responding to a domestic call in Virginia.

The day before she was killed, she was sworn into the Prince William County Police Department.

Prior to Virginia, Guindon lived in New Hampshire, but she was born in Western Massachusetts, the same place hundreds of loved ones gathered, Sunday, in her honor, and said their first goodbyes.

At the wake, police officers from several states and agencies turned on their blue lights and rolled in on motorcycles to pay their respects.

At just 28-years-old, Guindon built up quite the resume, also holding the title of a proud former marine.

It’s a  tragedy, that’s hard to understand, but a beautiful life, that will always be remembered.

A funeral mass will be held, Monday, at  the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104 on Monday March 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Cemetery. She will be laid to rest next to her father.
