HAMDEN — Police arrested a suspect in the case of a robbery of an elderly woman who chased after the man she said robbed her.

On Saturday, February 20, around 11:30 a.m. police were called to 2335 Dixwell Ave. An 85-year-old woman reported that she was sitting inside her car, when a man came up and asked her for money.

The woman reached into her purse, planning on giving the man “a few dollars.” That’s when the man grabbed her purse and ran away according to police.

The woman told police she chased the man a short distance, and found her purse laying outside a nearby store. Unfortunately, the man got away with $50 and her credit cards.

Police were called Sunday to the same parking lot for reports of a man who was aggressively approaching people and asking them for money. Authorities arrested Jeffrey Small, 47, of Hamden and charged him with robbery and larceny.  He was held on $30,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on March 21.
