State police cruiser broken into in Milford, AR-15 and bulletproof vest stolen

MILFORD — Police are investigating a theft of an AR-15 rifle and a bullet proof vest from a state police cruiser.

The items were taken from the trunk of a locked cruiser parked on West Rutland Road early Tuesday morning. The officer was off duty at the time.

The break-in happened between 12 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., according to police. The person or people involved smashed the windows of the cruiser and stole several items, including a rifle and vest.

An additional 12 vehicles in the area of West Rutland Road, Plains Road and Haystack Road were broken into as well and had items stolen. Also, one car, a 2015 green Ford Focus with Vermont license plates, was stolen.

Milford police are conducting the investigation.
