HARTFORD — Connecticut law enforcement officials are fighting an attempt to have some police training developed by analysts who have reported about potential racial profiling by officers across the state.

State lawmakers are considering a bill that would have analysts at Central Connecticut State University assess and recommend police training in the state. A legislative committee approved the bill Thursday and sent it to the House of Representatives.

Law enforcement officials say they’re concerned the analysts would duplicate the work of the state Police Officer Standards and Training Council, which runs the state police academy and has received national accreditation for using best practices.

Lawmakers say the bill would create checks and balances on police training independent from the law enforcement community.
