Man shot twice in New Haven

NEW HAVEN – Police are investigating a shooting of a 23-year-old near the Superior Courthouse on Elm Street between Wall and College streets in New Haven.

Damien Phillips, address unknown, was shot in the shoulder and the leg just after 6:15 p.m. and taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.

Other than the shooter was wearing a ski-mask, the suspect’s description was not available. Robbery does not seem to have been the shooter’s motive. Investigators believe it is probable the victim was targeted.

Police are asking for witnesses to come forward. Detectives may be reached by phoning 203-946-6304.

The shooting is not related to the earlier St. Patrick’s Day Parade nor the nearby campus at Yale University.
