NEW HAVEN -- The Elm City celebrated the feast of the Irish Sunday with the largest parade of the year. 200,000 people were expected to attend the event.

The New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicked off at 1:30 p.m. from Chapel Street at Sherman Avenue. The parade ended on Grove Street at Orange Street.

The Parade route travels Southeast on Chapel Street, to the end of the Green, where it turns left onto Church Street. It follows Church Street to Grove Street, where it turns right, and end at Orange Street. The Parade Route is 1.5 miles.

Organizers hoped to keep it a family friendly event. Police placed signs around the city warning people they could be ticketed for drinking in public.

You can find the list of street closings and parking options on the official New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade website.

The day was beautiful, with some clouds and temperatures around 60 degrees.
