HARTFORD -- It’s pretty ironic, the day spring arrives, Connecticut will get hit with winter-weather. For many, the weekend was not about preparing for the snow, but holding onto the last bit of sunshine.
“It's great, it's actually unbelievable,” Hartford resident Edgar Downer said. “Kids do not want to be in a house and it's great that the weather's awesome.”
Residents who enjoyed Bushnell Park, Saturday, did not forget, it’s march and this smooth ride of spring-like weather is about to be at a halt.
“All winter it's been pretty much like spring,” he said. “Now we`re getting spring and it's gonna be winter.”
Throwing a little snow in the game is par for the course, especially since this winter has been mild.
Tunxis Plantation Golf Pro Angelo Fiducia said the course was able to open the end of February, which is a month before most years, and the earliest in more than three decades.
Golfers from Quebec drove to Tunxis to escape the snow.
“In Quebec City, there’s still a lot of snow,” Julian Damours said, “We see a lot of snow storms in Quebec so we’re not worried about another one.”
Fiducia says even if the snow forces the course to close, and impacts business for a few days, they imagine they’ll be back in operation for a big golf day.
“With good Friday coming, that’s a big day for us and it's supposed to be nice weather so hopefully we’ll be okay by then, for sure,” he said.
Even if mother nature gets in the way, residents are not worried, because dealing with winter weather is second nature for New Englanders.
“We're used to getting snow, so if we're getting a little snow, it's not surprising," Downer said. "This is actually what's surprising that it's so great outside."
