NEW HAVEN -- We've known it for years here in Connecticut, and now it's official. The Library of Congress has recognized Louis' Lunch as the birthplace of the hamburger.

The hamburger sandwich, as legend goes, was born when a customer was in a rush and the owner took the meat and put it between two slices of bread. U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro, in whose district the restaurant is located, submitted the business for recognition.

Now, Jeff Lassen is the fourth generation of the family to run the restaurant at its Crown Street location in New Haven.

Last month, Sean Pragano visited Louis' Lunch on Foodie Friday.
