A deli in North Branford was voted to have one of the best ham pies in the state.
"It has ham, pepperoni, basket cheese, eggs, and black pepper," said Joe Kaluski of Jay and Lucy`s Family Deli.
This time or year, Kaluski is working overtime, making over 400 pies.
" I work 18-22 hours a day," he said. "So it is tough. I`m tired!"
"I cut up everything the day before, let it soak up the egg, pie shells are frozen, and then you put them in the oven and they`re done," he said.
As Joe works non-stop, he keeps a family tradition going, even if that tradition has changed over the years.
"When I was a kid, this was something Nonni made!" said customer Vinnie Penn. " This wasn`t something you went out to buy."
If you aren't making your own, Kaluski has a few cooking for you in two tiny ovens, a few at a time.
"These ovens will be going non stop," he said. "Then I want to sleep on Easter."
