BRISTOL – A Bristol man was taken to the hospital after he was stabbed at his home Saturday night.

On Saturday just after 8 p.m. police got a 911 call reporting that a man had been stabbed at 115 Stearns Street in Bristol.

Police said they found the homeowner, Gary McCarthy, 80, on the front lawn outside his home suffering from multiple stab wounds to his leg and upper torso.

McCarthy was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford and underwent surgery for treatment for his injuries and an update on his condition was unavailable.

Police said McCarthy and his family members were able to identify his attacker as Eric Bowden, 20, of Waterbury, who was found nearby at his parent’s home in Bristol. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police said his attacker was an acquaintance of a family member but the motive for the attack was unclear.

Bowden was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault of the elderly, and home invasion. He was held on a $750,000 bail and is due in court on Monday.
