HARTFORD — Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says he hopes legislative leaders will agree on a bipartisan plan to cover Connecticut’s current fiscal year deficit, estimated to be about $220 million.
Both Democrats and Republicans plan to vote Tuesday on a deficit-cutting package but have yet to agree on the final details.
Malloy said Friday he hopes the final package will be bipartisan. If it’s not, he said either side will have to explain why they didn’t participate or vote for it.
Malloy has encouraged the General Assembly to vote on a deficit-cutting bill as soon as possible because the fiscal year ends July 1 and time is running out to accrue savings.
The governor already used his executive authority to make $65 million in cuts, but some reductions could change.
