GUILFORD — A sick dolphin who got caught up near Guilford on Tuesday has passed away.
The Guilford Police Animal Shelter posted on its Facebook page that it got “an unusual call” on Tuesday that a dolphin was stranded on the banks of the West River.
Volunteers and veterinarians from the nearby Mystic Aquarium came to help, but the dolphin could not be saved. A veterinarian at the scene said the young male white-sided dolphin had been very ill and should have still been with his mother.
The dolphin was brought back to the aquarium for an autopsy to determine what had made the animal sick and ensure it doesn’t impact other marine life in the area.
