WALLINGFORD– A Meriden woman was killed when she was struck by an Amtrak train on Tuesday evening. A man with her was injured.

The incident occurred near Old Colony Road in Wallingford around 8:10 p.m. A Northeast Regional train going from New Haven to Springfield hit the two who were trespassing on the tracks.

Wallingford Police said Robert Webb, 29 of Meriden, and Brittaney Tine, 24 of Meriden, were walking on the tracks when they were hit.

“A neighbor had heard a loud thud and thought maybe it was a deer being struck up on the railroad tracks,” Homestead said. “Then he heard a male crying for help and he came over here and found a male on the side of the road, and the male said he’d been struck by a train while he was walking on the tracks with his girlfriend.”

Tine was pronounced dead at the scene. Webb suffered a severe hand fracture and was taken to the hospital.  No one on-board was injured.

“It is an unfortunate incident, the two people were just walking on the tracks. I would hope this would serve as an example of how dangerous that can be and why you should not be walking on the tracks,” a police spokesman said.

Trains were delayed more than an hour as police remained on the scene.

Amtrak Police are handling the investigation, and Wallingford Police are supporting.
