MILFORD–A man was arrested in connection to a Milford fire that was determined to have been intentionally set.
Around 7 a.m. on December 8, 2015, the Milford Fire Department responded to a large fire on South Wind Lane in a four-unit condo. No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured, but there was extensive damage to the second floor and also damage to the first floor.
Firefighters did rescue a cat.
It was immediately determined that the fire was suspicious. According to the Milford Fire Department, a New Haven County state marshal arrived at the residence in Milford that morning to serve an eviction notice, but found the home was in flames.
“Right now, it’s too early to tell whether the [eviction] is a coincidence or if it’s connected. This does stick out like a sore thumb, but the fire remains under investigation,” said Captain Greg Carman, of the Milford Fire Department, at the time.
An investigation jointly conducted by the Milford Fire Department, Milford Police and State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit determined that the fire had been intentionally set. The homeowner, Douglas McDonald, 35, was arrested on Monday and charged with first-degree arson, first-degree endangerment and first-degree criminal mischief. He was released on a $50,000 bond and is due in court May 17.
