SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Springfield Falcons are moving to Arizona.

According to a press release posted on the AHL’s website Tuesday morning, the Arizona Coyotes and Springfield Falcons reached an agreement that would move the team to the Tuscon Convention Center in Arizona for the 2016-2017 season.

“The agreement is contingent upon AHL Board of Governor approval, finalizing closing conditions, and signing an arena lease agreement,” the statement said.

People who have already bought tickets for Falcons games in Springfield can receive refunds.

In operation since 1936, the AHL calls itself the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams with close to 90% of today’s NHL players being American Hockey League graduates.

The Hartford Wolf Pack also plays in the AHL.
