HARTFORD–UConn’s legendary women’s basketball coach has been released from the hospital.

Geno Auriemma, 62, was hospitalized on Saturday with an undisclosed illness. He had boarded a plane at Bradley Airport, but before take-off got off and went to the hospital.

Auriemma has been sick for more than a week now, almost since his team returned home after defeating Syracuse in the NCAA championship game. He missed the celebratory parade for his team’s fourth-straight national title in Hartford on April 10 because he was sick. He also did not go with his team to the state Capitol when they were honored.

Here is the statement released by UConn:

UConn head women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma returned home from the hospital on Tuesday morning.  He is feeling better and enjoying some time with his family.  Coach Auriemma and his family wish to express their appreciation and gratitude to everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

Auriemma is 955-134 in 31 seasons at UConn, and has led the team to a record of 11 national titles.
