NEW HAVEN - Three suspected bank robbers are in police custody after a chase across city lines.

On Thursday at around 2:45p.m. Hamden Police responded to the Wells Fargo Bank at 1647 Whitney Avenue for the report of a bank robbery.

"It definitely worries me considering I work directly across the street," Cork and Barrel Manager Austin Burns said. "If somebody's not opposed to robbing a bank, then obviously somebody wouldn't be opposed to coming in a liquor store with a weapon and holding us up."

Wells Fargo customers couldn't believe this happened in an area they consider safe.

"I grew up around here and never heard of anything happening in Spring Glen like this," customer Thea Workman said.

The getaway car crashed into a tree near Frontage Road and Ella Grasso Boulevard in New Haven where New Haven Police arrested the three suspects and turned them over to Hamden Police.

"I'm definitely relieved knowing that police in this area are on point with their investigations, catching the criminals who committed this act today," Burns said. "Definitely comfortable knowing that in this neighborhood things are on lock."

The suspects are being questioned in relation to an earlier robbery at a West Haven post office Thursday morning, since police said there are similarities between the two robberies.
