NEW HAVEN — The New Haven Police Department bomb squad was called to College and Grove streets in downtown New Haven on the Yale University campus after a report of a suspicious package early Friday afternoon.

Shortly after, police determined there was no threat and were able to clear the scene. No word yet on what the suspicious package turned out to be.
New Haven Police spokesman David Hartman was in a meeting discussing the city’s plans for this weekend’s presidential candidates visits at the time of the incident.
Streets in the area were closed down but have since reopened.
