WATERBURY - A terrible sin occurred at a Catholic cemetery in Waterbury.

A thief stole several religious statues from gravesites at Calvary Cemetery.

One memorial marker, for example, is now missing a pair of angels.

Waterbury Police believe the thefts happened over the last couple of weeks, and they value the total loss at upwards of $150,000.

"It's not right," said Irene DeMatteo, who was visiting her mother's gravesite. "Now I'm worried are they going to come and take flowers. Who knows what's next?"

Police said they are exploring every option potentially used to resell the statues, from online sites to pawn shops.
