WILTON -- A college student from Connecticut has qualified for this summer's Olympic Swim Team Trials in Nebraska.

Michael Pilyugin, 22, from Redding, attended college at St. Bonaventure University in New York.

At St. Bonaventure, he was named the "Performer of the Meet" at the A-10 Championship after he won three events and was a member of three first-place relays. As a freshman, he excelled in three events: the 200-yard freestyle, the 200-yard backstroke and the 100-yard backstroke.

In high school, the four-time All-American excelled throughout his swimming career. During his junior year he set four school records, but surpassed that mark in his senior year when he broke six school records to finish out his high school career.

There is no doubting Pilyugin's commitment to swimming, but he does need financial assistance to get to he trials, and has set up a gofundme page.
