HARTFORD - Governor Dannel P. Malloy and the majority Democrats have been at odds for weeks over how to address the state's deficit woes.
Democrats balked at a revised budget offered by Malloy, opposing his cuts to hospitals, social services, education funding and property tax relief efforts. His administration is also continuing to issue hundreds of state employee layoff notices. Democrats intentionally skipped a recent closed-door negotiation session with him, leaving him to meet alone with minority Republicans, who've also put forward a budget plan.
Rep. John Shaban (R) Redding, Member Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, discusses the Republican budget plan with Al and Jenn.
