HOLGUIN, Cuba -- By day three of the historic USA Cuba Goodwill Tour, the 18 American players and dozens more of their family members were energized both on and off the diamond. The group from West Hartford was taking in a different culture, one that they had never experienced before.

"Everything is slow," said Bill 'Spaceman' Lee, the former Red Sox and Expos pitcher who acts as an ambassador for the Goodwill Tour. "You're down here, you're opening up your heart and you're giving back."

In the rural Cuban town of Rafael Freyre, one of the voices in the crowd watching his Cuban teen club do battle against Team USA was Leonardo Hernandez, who welcomed his American counterparts with open arms.

"You can see U.S. kids playing against Cuban kids, this is something we could never have expected before," Hernandez said through a translator.

West Hartford's Chris Keller, the dad of an American team member, used just two words to sum up his experience in Cuba: "enlightening, amazing."
