AVON  — Police say a 33-year-old woman was driving “aggressively” and “erratically” before she was killed in a collision with a sport utility vehicle on Avon Mountain.

Kelly Gregory, 33, of Simsbury, was traveling east on U.S. Route 44 around 3 p.m. Wednesday when she lost control of her car and swerved into the westbound lane. Police say the accident happened on the West Hartford side of the mountain and led to significant traffic delays.

The male driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police closed U.S. Route 44 while an accident reconstruction team was on-scene trying to piece together the crash. The road was reopened around 9 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
