MILFORD–Police made two arrests after a pair of men assaulted officers and were found to be in possession of drugs.

On Thursday, the Milford Police Narcotics and Vice Unit had officers on anti-crime patrol in the area of Howard Johnson Hotel on Boston Post Road when they saw two suspicious men in a car.

When approached, the men became combative and had to be subdued with the help of two police K9s and an electronic control device. However, while attempting to subdue the suspects, the suspects hit the officers and choked the dogs.

Once subdued, police found both men to be in possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

No one seriously injured, but both suspects were treated at hospital.

The suspects were later identified as Karim Harrison, 40, of New Haven; and Harrison Rowbotham, 20, of Guilford.

Both men were charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, and one count each of cruelty to animals, interfering with police, possession of narcotics, conspiracy to possess narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, conspiracy to possess narcotics with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Each was held on $10,000 bond and appeared in court on Friday.

Harrison has been convicted of several crimes in the past, including narcotics convictions and engaging police in pursuit. There is no digital record for Rowbotham on the state’s judicial website.
