NEW LONDON — Police arrested a Waterford man on charges he attempted to have sex with a minor in lieu of cash from tenants in his rental properties.
Multiple law enforcement agencies worked to arrest Richard Bruno, 46, of Waterford, on Thursday. He was charged with criminal attempt at trafficking in persons, criminal attempt sexual assault, risk and impair morals minor, and enticement of minor. He posted a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear on May 19 at New London Superior Court.
Police said they received a tip that Bruno was attempting to extort sexual acts in the place of cash for rental properties he had leased to tenants. Police said the possible solicitation involved sexual acts from children.
Police investigated and said Bruno planned to meet someone he thought was a thirteen-year-old girl for sexual acts in exchange for money. On Thursday, when he arrived at the meeting place, he was taken into custody. Police also searched Bruno’s Waterford home and seized evidence.
New London police, State police and Waterford police worked jointly on the investigation.
