NEW BRITAIN - A fun event in happened in New Britain Saturday - the 23rd annual Race in the Park, part of the Connecticut Breast Health Initiative.
Just in time for Mother's Day, the event helps raise breast cancer awareness. The disease impacts about 1-8 American women in their lifetime.
"We are so different than the other organizations - which are all good - but we keep our money in the state of Connecticut," said Joyce Bray, president of the Connecticut Breast Health Initiative. "One-hundred percent of the money that we raise stays here and we focus on research and education."
Runners who had breast cancer wore pink ribbons in their hats, representing each year of their battle.
Breast cancer survivors were also treated to a special breakfast.
