ENFIELD — An inmate died after being found unresponsive in his cell Friday morning.

Officials said Christopher Lyons, 52, of Simsbury, was found with a ligature around his neck during a routine cell check Carl Robinson Correctional Institution in Enfield at 6:30 a.m. Lyons was alone in his cell at the time.

Staff members performed emergency measures and Lyons was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Department of Corrections, Lyons was serving a three and one half-year sentence for illegal possession of child pornography.  He entered the Carl Robinson Correctional Institution in September, 2015.

The exact manner and cause of death will be determined by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.  The Department of Correction Security Division and the Connecticut State Police are investigating the death.
