WINDSOR LOCKS--We've issued several wildlife warnings in recent weeks as the weather warms up and animals come out to play, and now another town is warning about the presence of coyotes after an attack.
Earlier in the week a person walking their 100-pound dog on a trail in Waterworks Park on South Center Street got concerned when the dog, who was off its leash, went into the woods and did not return when called.
The dog finally emerged with two coyotes on its back, and it suffered bite marks to its hind legs. The coyotes ran back into the woods.
The Windsor Police Animal Control officers say this attack is unprecedented and there aren't any previous reports, but there have been several coyote sightings in the area. Sgt. Wayne Kulas says domestic animal attacks in that area are rare.
