BOXBOROUGH, Mass. — A man wanted by authorities for nearly 20 years for an armed home robbery in Willimantic has been arrested Saturday.

Jose Manuel Blanco-Dominguez of Lawrence, Mass. was taken into custody Saturday morning in Boxborough.

Police say they pulled over the 57-year-old Blanco-Dominguez for a traffic stop on Massachusetts Avenue. The officer learned there was an arrest warrant for Blanco-Dominguez after running the vehicle’s registration.

Police say Blanco-Dominguez is one of four men who robbed a family at knifepoint in a Willimantic home on June 25, 1997. Police say three of the men were captured but Blanco-Dominguez escaped by jumping out a window and running into the nearby woods.

Blanco-Dominguez is being held without bail pending his arraignment.

It’s unclear whether he has a lawyer who could comment on the charges.

“Today’s arrest is a fine example of outstanding police work by the Boxborough Police Department,” Boxborough Chief Ryder said in a statement. “A less experienced officer may have mistaken the suspect’s alias as valid, but thanks to the smart detective work by a seasoned law enforcement veteran like Sgt. Pelley, we were able to take this dangerous individual into custody.”

“The Willimantic Police Department would like to thank the Boxborough Police Department, as well as our law enforcement partners north of the Connecticut border in the Commonwealth for their assistance this morning. said Willimantic Police Cpl. Stanley Parizo, Jr. in a statement.
