HARTFORD — A judge has delayed the sentencing of a man caught in a 2012 drug bust who authorities say was a player in the French Connection heroin ring of the 1960s and 1970s.

Seventy-five-year-old Alfred Catino of Danbury was to be sentenced Monday in federal court in New Haven. Catino’s lawyer is seeking the minimum mandatory five-year prison sentence, while prosecutors are asking for a 10-year prison sentence.

His lawyer, Frank Riccio II, says the sentencing was postponed a month because Catino took issue with a pre-sentence investigation report that could affect sentencing guidelines the judge will consider. Riccio wouldn’t elaborate.

Catino, of Danbury, was among 16 people busted in Connecticut in 2012 for distributing marijuana, cocaine and oxycodone in Fairfield County. He pleaded guilty to a drug conspiracy charge in 2014.

The French Connection was a major supplier of heroin to the United States. It spawned the Oscar-winning 1971 film of the same name starring Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider.
