PORTSMOUTH, N.H.  -- A fireball was seen across New England early Tuesday morning. And of course it was captured on video.

All it takes is a rock the size of a grain of sand to cause what we call a shooting star. The one that many people saw last night may have been a little bigger than that. People from Connecticut all the way into Maine saw this fireball light up the sky just before 1 a.m.

And this fireball was also caught on a web cam in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

It lit up the sky to near daylight levels over the harbor there.

These rocks impact the Earth’s atmosphere at anywhere between 25,000 and 100,000 miles per hour.
