VERNON–A car got free after a police chase ensued on I-84 Tuesday evening, and police are asking for help finding the person responsible.

Around 7:35 p.m. a state trooper saw a suspicious car exiting the Vernon Burger King near exit 67 off of I-84. State Police tried to pull the car over near exit 66, and the car did stop, but the driver refused to exit his car.

The driver then drove off, and police followed in pursuit along I-84 west.

State Police tried to box in the late model black Saab 9.3, at which point the driver crashed into the cruiser. The crash caused minor damage to the cruiser.

The Saab tried to cross the center median to get to the eastbound side, but got stuck. However, it freed itself and continued westbound on the highway, at which point troopers stopped following to ensure the safety of others on the road.

No one was injured.

Police are searching for the car, which has front-end damage and a broken passenger side headlight, call 911. The car has Connecticut license plates that read AC 56942.
