HARTFORD — The Legislative Office Building was evacuated in Hartford Tuesday around 11:45 a.m.

The Hartford Fire Department was called in for a small fire in an electrical outlet on the second floor, according to fire department officials.

The fire was put out quickly but there was some residual smoke in the building. There was also a brief power outages and no one was hurt.

The staff was evacuated from the LOB, but the Capitol continued business as usual. LOB staffers were sent home for the rest of the day due to a lingering odor in the building, but everyone will return tomorrow.

An email was sent to all staffers from State Capitol Police at 11:46 a.m. that said “A fire has been reported in the LOB. Follow evacuation procedures” so there was no confusion that it was a drill.

The Fire Marshal, Licensing and Inspections and Capitol Police are investigating.
