A massive study done by the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine has concluded that genetically modified organisms are not only safe for human consumption, but in many cases they are healthier than non-GMO crops. The scientists who worked on this study knew there would be skeptics, so they put all their data up on a website for all to view.

The goal of the study is to inform public discourse. According to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), consumers worldwide get conflicting information about genetically engineered crops, and there is a need for an independent, objective study to investigate some of the claims. Fred Gould, one of the professors involved in this study, said, "you can't just continue to have an opinion without backing it up with data." For that reason, these scientists made all that information available online. They want people who may be against GMOs to look at the data and maybe alter their view on the topic, or find mistakes and report it to the NAS.

So here are some of their findings:

  • There is no evidence of large-scale health effects on people from GMOs.
  • These crops can actually benefit humans more than non-gmo's because of their increase in vitamins such as vitamin a.
  • Crop loss is lower and insect population is largely unaffected in areas where GMOs are farmed.

Here’s a link to the findings and recommendations from the study that you can review on your own
