SEYMOUR – A person who suffered life-threatening injuries when a box truck crashed into a Department of Transportation truck on Route 8 in Seymour on Thursday has died.
The accident happened just after noon on Thursday on Route 8 southbound near exit 20. The DOT construction truck was parked partially in the right lane and the shoulder of the road and had an illuminated sign to warn of the lane closure. The box truck was driving when for an unknown reason it veered right and began driving on the metal beam guardrail off the road. It then hit the DOT truck.
The driver of the DOT truck didn’t have any injuries. The driver of the box truck was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The deceased person has been identified as Daniel Cormier, 61, of Glendale, New York.
This was the second fatal crash on Route 8 South on Thursday. Two people were killed in a wrong-way crash near exit 13 in Shelton early Thursday morning.
