NEW HAVEN--A forgotten piece of history along the New Haven shoreline was once a guardian of New Haven. It was pivotal in delaying the capture of New Haven during the American Revolution, but it eventually fell into disrepair.

However, Fort Nathan Hale was rebuilt and put back in service for the War of 1812, and has been a shoreline fixture since.

On this week's Hidden History, photojournalist Mike Townsend takes us to Fort Nathan Hale, which will hold its annual flag raising ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 21.

The Fort is free to visit for all and open to the public, but donations are accepted and welcomed.
