BRIDGEPORT — A mother has notified officials that she plans to file wrongful death and civil rights lawsuits against Bridgeport and its police department in connection with her son’s death.

The Connecticut Post reports Cheryl Anderson claims her son David’s April 18 death was tied directly to a police pursuit that yielded the arrest of a Geraldo Maldonado, 22 .

Anderson said her son’s sport utility vehicle was hit by a sedan driven by the suspect as police chased him on Bridgeport’s East Side. David Anderson was ejected from the SUV.

Attorney Robert Berke claims that Bridgeport officers initiated the pursuit after observing a minor infraction, which is prohibited by police policy.

A spokesman for Mayor Joe Ganim said police observed the suspect drive through four stop signs at “considerable speed.”
