NORWICH – Police were able to arrest a man on drug, motor vehicle and parole violations after a foot chase with help from a driver gave officers a ride to get ahead of the suspect.

Police said they were responding to the report of a road rage incident on Wednesday when they stopped a car on Taftville Occum Road and the driver ran away from the scene.

Officer Matthew Seidel started a foot chase and a driver who was passing by the scene offered a ride to the officer, dropping him off ahead of the suspect.

Police were able to capture Duane Crawford, 27, of Norwich. Crawford was charged with possession of drugs, interfering with a police officer, breach of peace and operating a motor vehicle without a license. They also determined that he was in violation of his parole.

The helpful driver did not give their name to officers at the time of the incident, so police were not able to publicly express their thanks.

Crawford was turned over with the Department of Corrections and held on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 16.
