HIGGANUM -- It's Foodie Friday and National Donut Day so we're taking you to a new gourmet sweet spot in Higganum with an unusual name. Redneck Gourmet is a place for donuts and sweets.
Jeff Blaschke, owner of the donut trailer, said the name comes from his country roots where homemade flavors are the norm.
"There's nothing better than a fresh, hot donut," said Blaschke.
His donuts that are full of gourmet goodness: from Boston creme to cookies and cream to homemade cannoli, there is something for everyone. But the signature treat is the hot and fresh apple cider donut.
"Apple cider donuts are our speciality," Blaschke said. "It makes our customers feel like they are at a fair and that is why I like the trailer atmosphere because it makes people feel like they are getting something special."
Jeff greets every customer with a kind word and a smile knowing his donuts fulfill their sugary fix.
Locals Frank and Cindy Moskey stopped by for the first time Friday and are now believers.
"We heard about this gentleman opening up here so we had to give it a try," said Frank Moskey. "It's wonderful."
