Driver arrested after hitting, killing 5 and injuring 4, including kids, in Kalamazoo, MI

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — Multiple people are dead, including children, after a driver plowed into a group of bicycle riders in a hit-and-run in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, Tuesday evening.

The driver was eventually captured and arrested. Charges are pending.

Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department Undersheriff Paul Matyas told WXMI the crash happened just before 7 p.m. in the 5500 block of N. Westnedge Avenue.

Five people were killed and four others were injured and taken to hosptials, according to Matyas. Several of the victims are children.

Many of the victims were riding bicycles at the time of the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck drove off after slamming into the group, but was eventually apprehended.
