MONROE -- With the cost of higher education skyrocketing, some students are getting creative with raising money for school. Crowdfunding for tuition is a growing trend.

Jesse Manning, 20, of Monroe set up a Go Fund Me page for his best friend, called UCONN4Sarah.

Sarah Dezelin, 19, is almost a 4.0 student, who is about to transfer from Southern Connecticut State University to UConn.

The problem is, the money has run out.

"I've tried a lot of scholarships, but UConn hasn't offered me any of their academic scholarships, and without the aid from the government, I'm not sure if I'll be able to go at all," Dezelin said.

Dezelin says it was a lot easier to get scholarships and grants as an incoming freshman than it is now as a current college student.

The goal for Dezelin's Go Fund Me is to raise $15,000.
