NEW BRITAIN — Police have made an arrest in a shooting in which the victim apparently asked to be shot.

New Britain police responded to a Farmington Avenue home on May 31 around 10:35 p.m. for reports of a man shot in the chest. The 23-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life threatening.

Police said the victim originally reported being shot by an unknown assailant, but the investigation revealed “the victim actually arranged to be shot by Ortiz for an unspecified amount of money and was a willing participant in his own assault.”

Police didn’t disclose why the man wanted to be shot.

On Wednesday police arrested Juan Ortiz, 48, of New Britain. Ortiz is a convicted felon who police say knows the unnamed victim.
